Default Worried about going on Propecia

I'm currently 21 years old and I have a receding hairline. I was thinking about going on Propecia but I'm worried that I might be too young (as I'm not sure if I finished puberty). Would it be best to just stick to Minoxidil and S5 (for example) for now?

You are most certainly past puberty at age 21.... The only thing left for you in terms of secondary sexual characteristics is possibly more facial hair if you don't already have some. You should do some research yourself from credible sources and consult with a dermatologist or two to decide if you in fact have male pattern baldness. Remember that there are many doctors that do not know much about hair loss so be sure to get different opinions and or visit a hair specialist. If you are lucky then it's just natural maturing of the hairline, but better safe than sorry

Also to add you are not young to go on propecia, many at your age have done so including myself and are just fine. Like I said earlier do some thorough research and make a decision.

Thansk for the reply. It's comforting to know that I seem to be old enough.
I'm pretty sure I have MPB from what I've seen at the internet as my hairline has receded quite a bit (and continues to do so) and in the typical M shape (I'd say I'm about a NW2 right now).
I have some facial hair but now enough to grow a full beard (some white patches) will propecia interfere significantly with that?

Again let me reiterate the best thing you can do for yourself is research. You will see all kinds of fake cure sand promises and you might be even led into a few. Trust me the more you know about hairloss the better it will be for you. As for finasteride(aka propecia), one of its possible side effects is losing some body hair, I don't remember about the facial hair though. Another important thing to note, remember that all drugs have POSSIBLE side effects. From the studies conducted on finasteride, the chance of these side effects are very low and if they do occur they will subside after stopping the treatment. As of this point there are really only 3 main treatment options: finasteride, minoxidil, and hair transplant. Finasteride is your best bet, since it acts to prevent further hair loss and if you are lucky even some regrowth. Minoxidil is a growth stimulant that works differently than finasteride but doesn't prevent further hair loss and has a much lower success rate.

I know I have stated this a couple times but seriously you will do yourself a big favour by doing some research on your own about these drugs and hair loss. I suggest you look at places other than forums since some guys may scare you away from a treatment. Most of the time these are overreactions. But doing your own research will help prevent you from making mistakes that you will regret.

I've done a lot of research about it already, which has led me to regard the possible side effects as a reasonable risk, but I haven't found that much on (other than the occasional anecdotal evidence) the effect of propecia on facial hair and additional age related risk factors. But it seems to not be that significant, I think I'll start on a low dose and go from there little by little.
    Thanks again.
