Is this DPA or DUPA? - 17 years old

My hair has gotten a bit thinner so I decided to go to a derm. He confirmed that there is some early miniaturization, but not only on the top of my head, but also the sides and no receding hairline (although i have an assymetrical hairline which I have inherited from my father, who is not balding). The back is completely fine, no bad hairs. I have already ordered my batch of kirkland.

I have no family history of hair loss, my dad is 48 with a full head of hair, his dad only had some minor recession (something like a nw 2.5 maybe an nw 3 when he was about 70 and it stopped right there until his death, at 78), my mums dad died before he was 50, but suffered no hair loss until then.
I have only a great grandfather (paternal, grandmaternal) who was bald, he suffered from early mpb, he was bald by his twenties and he had no hair on the sides of his head, just a patch of hair on the back (but that was solid and thick, not see through) and that he maintained (at least it seems like on pictures) until he died at 68.
1. Was that DPA or DUPA?

2. I guess I inherited my hairloss from him (bad luck on this one), so do I have DUPA or DPA?

3. Also should I be extremely cautious on only applying minox to the areas which are thinning or it's no problem if a few drops go in the safe zone?

Make sure you aren't taking any medications, prescription or over the counter, that have a hair loss side effect. How's your diet?

Hopefully you don't have DUPA.

I wouldn't worry about where you rub minoxidil. I have been rubbing it all over my head for years and it seems to help a little and I haven't noticed any downside.

My diet is fine I believe, I am also pretty fit. I had a blood test and it said everything is fine.

I never had any surgeries nor any serious accidents. I don't stress much except for last year when I attended a school which was pretty hard and I hated it, but now everything has resolved (save for the average daily stress).

I don't take medications, only MSM (have been taking that for a year or so, for joints as I am 196 cm, a really tall guy), a nutrient mix for hair(biotin, B1 vit, b5 etc.) and DMG.


I had some serious dandruff, oily hair ( I trait which my father and grandfather also share, who have never balded) but I use the shampoo and Alpricot which the doc prescribed me and now it's fine.

The derm also said that it's really early state as there are no vellus hairs, just ones starting to miniaturise (it's not agressive neither, every 3rd or 4th is miniaturising, the rest are ok, he said this is called caliber fluctuation (crude translation, sorry)), but there is a clearly defined area on the back, which is perfectly fine and shows no signs of hairloss.
Can it later start miniaturising and is there a way to prevent/postpone that?

Will it count as DUPA then or it is already DUPA?

I am not sure it has progressed since I have first noticed it being thinner (it was about 6 months back).

I'm not sure I would want to start fin even when I turn 18/20. I hope there will be some better treatments by then...

Find a hair restoration physician that uses the HairCheck system for evaluating miniaturization. Have photos taken at the doctor's office. "Cross-section trichometry (CST for HMI) measurement is a useful mechanical modality for assessing hair loss."

The doctor's office will keep the numbers on file. In a couple of years, you can return for another HairCheck to compare numbers. At that time you can decide whether or not to take Propecia (finasteride) to slow the MPB progress if it is confirmed.

If you're ever in Atlanta, we do HairCheck at N/C. You would need to call to make an appointment.

Well, the problem is that I live in Hungary... Do you know if anyone uses haircheck hair?

The derm (who is a hair specialist, a pretty prestigious one around here) made photos with magnified lens of my hair and ( I guess) stored them, he told me to start minox and come back 3 months later to see if anything changes.

On these photos he said that there is a clearly definable area (he drew it with his finger) on the back of my head (which is about the size of my hand if I lay it there) which shows no signs of hair loss. He said that we can't know for sure if that will start miniaturizing or not.

What do you think are my chances of keeping that area or losing it?

Could you take some clear high resolution photos and post them here. You can hide your face in the photos if you want. Be sure to take some good photos of the back and sides.

Also, it is possible that your great grandfather's hair loss was due to something other than MPB.

Also just found a pic ( a photo from his wedding actually) of my great grandad from 1929 ( he was 29 by then) where it can be clearly seen that he has no hair on the sides, some hair on the top and good hair on the back.

There is a photo when he was 40 where he has no hair on the sides/top but it is clearly visible that he has thick hair on the back of his head.

I don't know if that thinned later in his life as there aren't such good pictures. He clearly had some hair on those areas but I'm not sure of the quality of the hair due to the bad quality of the photos and because of the greying of his hair.

I tried to upload the photos of my great grandad but it didnt let me. I'll try to get the photos of my hair in a few days.

Actually with the correct lighting, you can take decent photos on a Samsung Galaxy. For photos, *.jpeg or *.jpg is the most common image format. That's what I use when I upload to the forums. I also make sure the images aren't larger than 2,200 pixels wide (or tall).

Try to make the images of your great grandfather available here. Wouldn't it be great news if what looks like baldness is only white or gray hair? Most likely you are using a scanner to create the digital copy. Your scanner may be set to output an incompatible format for this forum. You can usually change that in the scanner software or you can always open the image in "Paint" and do a "Save As" jpg or jpeg (same thing).
