Can excessive use of rogaine cause hair loss?

I apply rogaine solution twice a day and usually use twice the recommended dose each time. This may be causing a small amount of scalp irritation but can it cause shedding and/or receding?

I think the only thing you will get from using too much is increasing your chances of getting scalp irritation.

Once a day was enough for it to work for me. I found using twice a day to be inconvenient because it makes my hair a sticky flat mess. So I apply it before bedtime and wash it out in the morning.

And once a day may really be enough because I believe they never ran trials on once a day only trials on twice a day. That and the fact they'll sell more of it, is why they tell us to use it twice a day.

I have been using it twice a day for a few years now and I'm happy with the results but you have to be aware that it won't give you your bushy hair back, it has its limitations. I'll use Volume Hair Plus occasionally if I need extra volume. I have never heard of anyone with increased hair loss when using Rogaine. There always can be other factors that can contribute to hair loss.
