    Until the exact mechanism of androgenic alopecia is understood, we can only take educated stabs at oral or topical remedies. I personally believe that DHT (among other things) messes with the normal hair cycles of susceptible hair follicles. I believe the immune system plays a role in normal hair cycles. The telogen hair growth phase dominates areas affected by MPB. For me occasional use of Cordran SP on my scalp stops shedding dead in its tracks. Corticosteroids are immunosuppressants. Corticosteroids can cause skin thinning, so dermatologists discourage regular use. I would be interested in knowing if Cordran SP would be advisable/useful after a year on finasteride to halt shedding. Cordran SP has a side effect of excessive hair growth. Perhaps only because it throws hair into its anagen phase.
