Default Anyone use finasteride with diffuse thinning?

    Hey guys,

I've had diffuse thinning for the last few years. My crown is starting to get noticeably thin and a also some receding at the front. I'm 30 years old.

If I were to maintain what I have I'm happy.

However, I've read a lot of mixed reviews for finasteride and diffuse thinning. The main concern being that users say they shed quite a bit and the growth never returns so they stop and end up worse.

I need your help because I don't have any from my doctor as she didn't even know what finasteride was, I had to bring it up to her. Also, she wouldn't let me get a DHT or testosterone blood test so I will have to get that done on my own terms. (I'm in Ontario, Canada)

One other concern about fin is the sexual dysfunction, I have a healthy libido but my sex life with women is non-existent. I do masturbate apx. 5-7 times a week and noticed my erections aren't as fully strong as they used to be and it takes more stimulation to maintain them.

Another thing I've noticed is I haven't had morning wood for the last few years either, pretty much the same time frame my hair loss, not sure if this is connected?

My hair has always been pretty thick, for the last few years I've noticed a lot of thinning in thickness and a few times a day I noticed a little tingle + burning sensation in my crown and temples (as this might be DHT burning up my follicles?)

Logically, I'm thinking my testosterone has decreased and my DHT levels are higher so I should get those checked out. Not sure exactly what I'm supposed to ask the doctors what numbers I'm looking for?

Ok, seriously I'm really hoping to hear back from you guys. I have no one else to talk to about this and it's really embarrassing and I get no help from my doctor.

    Thank you

In my experience if you still have some thickness it's a life saver.

I must say this is my second shot on the med. It's a shame because the first one I had to quit after six months because of the side effects but back in that day I still had a lot of my hair and with the med I was able to completely forget being aware of my problem.

The sides lasted for one and a half year and also I lost a lot of my hair thickness so I took the determination of giving another shot, but this this time I followed "Spex's" approach to the med and this time I had no sides. I recently hit the 1 year mark and I can say I'm very happy with the results. I know I have a hair problem but at least I get to stabilize it and somehow control it.

I'm 37 and have diffuse thinning. It has worked to thicken up what I have. Been on fin for about 7 months. I don't have the erection problems that you have. Maybe consider masturbating less. I know it might sound as if I am simplifying the problem, but looking at porn and masturbating everyday is definitely going to effect how you function.

Seems to work best for diffusers. Im in Ontario too and got bloodtests and fin prescribed from my derm.

HOWEVER, i have a strong suspicion the DHT tests are not being carried out correctly. I wont go deeply into the details, but essentially fin and dut both had no effect on my DHT based on the results. This makes no sense and I believe there's an explanation which I wont go into atm. I'm going to a endocrinologist soon and gonna talk to him/her about it.

As you age DHT increases and T decreases. Of course at 31 your sex drive aint gonna be the same as it was in your 20s....theres ways to change that

Risk of sides with fin of course, if you think saving your hair is worth the risk go for it. Persistent sides are EXTREMELY rare.

    Thumbs up

Salvation Don't hesitate and SPEAK with your doctor about it.

Notcoolanymore is having a great experience with Finasteride just as i am.
He has been on it close to 7 months,,I have been on it over 7 months now.
I was so surprised that it DID begin to improve my hair too.
I cant wait til the 1 year mark.
For me there isn't any serious side effects from it.
My ejaculate has been reduced but that is all.
Everything else feels and works just fine.
As Dan has said-".. Persistent sides are EXTREMELY rare"
If you decide to try it,,take it as you would a multivitamin.
Take it and dont think about it! You may be pleasantly surprised too.

Every morning after my shower I feel so positive while looking in the mirror..for a change lol.

I hope someday soon we at least get an option of some kind of topical that works just locally to get the same results as finasteride so we can avoid all the systemic sides that could happen. Its been 20 years since finasteride. There is not much doubt anymore how crucial androgens are in MPB its not even up for debate
