Hi, I have an extremely thick head of hair and don't want to lose it as my dad who has my same hairline has diffuse thinning without recession. Granted he still looks great for 50 I'm not sure I can pull it off. My question is, for those who start with only an intention of maintaining...is 1 mg/day overkill? I was thinking of starting at .25 mg/day. Can anybody who started early tell their story. Again I'm not interested in regrowth because I haven't lost anything. I just want to be proactive. Thanks!
For those who started Propecia at the first sign of thinning

Hi! And I did have an examination by a respected surgeon in Az and he said because the distance between follicles was the same all around my scalp I haven't lost anything..yet. The thing is, I don't ever want to have to fight that uphill battle. Do you know of anyone whos started out on such a low dose? I've heard fin works better if you start early. I don't plan on taking this for life..just until I'm 40. I'm 19btw. ThanksComment

Depending on where you live, I'd check the list of IAHRS Surgeons and find one near you to get a consultation. They could undertake a miniaturisation assessment or maybe offer you the genetic Hair DX test. At least that would give you more to go on. Good luck and hope it goes well!!Comment

I actually underwent a miniturization assessment and I didn't have any on the crown or hairline but oddly enough I had a very slight indication in my mid scalp. Nothing lost just miniturization. My question is,however, did you start propecia at an early stage of hair loss? Is it supposed to work better at maintaining? ThanksComment
