Finasteride: Switching from generic to brand name

I am coming to the end of my first 5mg finasteride prescription, been on generic for 8 months now at 1.25mg eod and haven't noticed any change to rate of shed/ miniaturisation. I am considering buying brand name 5mg proscar with my next prescription because I have read anecdotal evidence online that some people find generic less effective.
I don't want to risk another initial shed by changing up my regimen but on the other hand it should be the same dosage of finasteride - and i'm not seeing the greatest of results so far with this generic stuff. Do you guys think this is a reasonable idea?

I have heard spencer kobren mention this on his show. I think it is worth a try. I use generic though.

I've heard the same thing. Doesn't seem like it should make a difference, but realize that if you get the generic and don't see great results, the question of whether you'd be seeing better results on the brand name will always eat at you. My Proscar costs me $30/mo, which isn't bad. At that price, I'd suggest going the branded route.

I am a FIRM believer in the name brand Proscar. I've spoken to too many patients that lost ground on generics mere months after switching from name brand Proscar. It averages out to only 20 bucks a month when you take a quarter tablet a day so it's not going to break the bank.

generics can have lower bioavailability whichis why it does make sense to for eg. take 1.25mg versus 1mg propecia

Thanks for all the input. Going to buy brand name with my new prescription, it only works out 3 times as much as generic which are cheap to begin with. Will give it a try and potentially post back here in ~9 months if i see any kind of appreciable results.
