that's a cowlick.
it might be thinning, but if so it's in the very very early stages.
nobody will notice or consider that balding

not that I'm the undeniable truth here, or anything, but it's probably because they either agree with what I said or think you have nothing to worry about at all

Can we see a picture without heavy flash on it?
It really just looks like a cowlick with those pictures.
(I have essentially the same exact thing on my head, and then it started thinning over the summer around the time my hairline really started to go)

ah, ok.
it's definitely a cowlick, however it is also definitely thin/thinning.
mine is extremely similar. However, I have been on finasteride for 5months now, and after a brief shed in the crown I seriously think it's fixed. It's still a cowlick, and still will always be thinner than the rest of my hair, but with a little bit longer hair and better styling, it's completely unnoticeable.
I also do 1% nizoral shampoo (regenpureDR) twice a week, and rogaine 2x a day for the hairline. The hairline hasn't really gotten better, but it's not gotten worse. If anything, there are tons of new growths though, just not noticeable since they are very thin and light vellus growths. But it's only 5months in!
For right now, I would highly consider buzzing your sides and about half-way up the back or so much shorter than the top and front. It will minimize the appearance of any thinning, as the sides will show a little more scalp with the shorter cut.

Is there much hair loss in your family? Propecia can help keep MPB at bay as long as you stick with it and are willing to risk possible side effects. I personally wouldn't take it, but that's just me. If not Propecia, try Rogaine twice per day. Photos sometimes can make one appear to have hair loss where there is no hair loss. I worked in video production for around 14 years and we shot and edited together a video of a well-known band. The drummer has a full head of hair, but the bright light shining from above created the illusion of a two inch diameter bald spot right at his swirl. Of course we didn't use that footage in the final edit.
