    Paranoia or something real?

I've had an off and on fear of my hair falling out for a few years now.
It got so bad at one point that I cut my hair, once halfway down my ass, to what I believe was a number 7 or 6 just to see.

I've been letting it grow back out and everything seems ok, except every so often I get glimpses of my scalp while in the bathroom.

To be fair my roots are decently light and the lighting in our bathroom is fairly harsh, four of those big globe bulbs, and it doesn't really look like it is an issue in other places.

So I am sorry if I am fine, but this bothers me more than I care to admit and is a massive hit to my confidence.

    Opinions?

It does look like androgenic alopecia. See a doctor, rule out other causes....do not get your hopes up for another cause though. 90+ % chance it is just genetic hair loss. If so, start meds

        This.

Expect the worst. Hope for the best. It's probably MPB though, brah. Don't delay treatment any longer.

Not to make you even more paranoid, but there is definitely thinning going on the top of your head. Don't waste time being in denial.

Well I mean knowing something is wrong is better than wondering.
The only issue now is that I am broke and have no way to see a doctor.

Not meant in a harsh way, but I think you know the answer.
I think you need to come to terms with the fact that you are actually becoming bald.

It's fine, now it's just a matter of seeing if there is something I can do to stop it or biting the bullet and just removing what I have.

Tto, just keep in mind that the battle isn't lost. Obviously you care about your hair. Do what you can to try to keep it. Who knows, you may even be able to grow a good amount back. Now I want to make it clear I am not discouraging you from seeing a doctor, but in my case I really didn't have to. I went to my doctor for a regular check up and just asked him to write me a script for fin. I didn't take any hormone tests or anything. I haven't even been back to the doctor for a follow up.

I understand being strapped for cash, but treatments aren't very expensive. I pay less than $5/month for minoxidil. Finasteride, if bought online will run you about .25 a day. You can treat your hair loss for about $12 a month. If you own a computer and have internet access, you can afford $12/month.

Fair enough, that's actually a lot cheaper than I thought.
And the good news is a job just called and woke me up, so there may be hope after all.

Now, I keep seeing things about laser combs, I assume these things are bunk?

Don't waste your money on a laser comb. I have yet to hear any success stories that convinced me to even consider buying one. Start off with the two treatments I mentioned. Amazon has good prices on minoxidil, inhousephamacy has good prices on finasteride. I buy fincar(5mg finasteride) and cut it into fourths.

                        Alright, I'll look into that.

Thank you everyone, you've been very helpful.
I will post a progress thread once I've begun treatments.

Good luck, bro. I wish you regrowth.

There is hope Tto. You are dealing with this very well and very maturely. You are getting on top of things at just the right time and you have and 85% chance of the very least keeping what you have for the next 10 years, and a good chance also of regrowing a good amount of your lost hair if you just go on rogaine and propecia.

These treatments work. They really do. Forget about the rest and just do what works. And you may find that you regain a sense of control over this problem and it just doesn't bother you so much anymore since you've got it under control.

                            Best of luck!
