Doc prescribed Finasteride - have questions
I asked my family doctor to prescribe Finasteride, and she just did.
I am not a doctor and she does not specialize in hair loss.
I wanted to ask -- do I just take Finasteride as prescribed? Is there any other thing I need to do together with it?
She prescribed 5mg tablets once per day. Reading about Finasteride I understand I am in for a lifetime (if I stop, whatever hair I grew will fall out), so i wanted to make sure I am doing this right before starting this medication.
Please let me know!
Thanks

She prescribed 5mg tablets once per day.
The most common recommended dosage is 1mg per day. If you have 5mg pills you can cut them into fifths or fourths (because when you cut them some will flake off). Don't take a 5mg tablet daily.

Welcome Chrisdobro,
The recommended dosage is indeed 1mg daily - Therefore if you have been prescribed 5mg Proscar Tabs then you simply need cut into 5th's as mentioned.
Hope this helps.

Thanks!
Aside from finasteride, is there anything I should know or do?
Or just go with finasteride for a while and see what results I get?

Just take your Finasteride every day and take pictures under the same lighting every 6 months.
If your hair looks pretty much the same as it did before every 6 months, you have been successful.

Other than possibly dutasteride, finasteride is the most effective thing you can take for hair loss. I would start on fin and see if that is enough to stop your hair loss and maybe grow some back. You can also add keto shampoo and minoxidil if you feel fin isn't doing enough on its own.
