    Question 9 Days Out

    Hey Guys,

    I'm nine days post-op, 2700 grafts.

In the literature given to me by the doctor, he says 'any remaining crusts after 8 or 9 days should be rubbed off and it is very important that you rub all these crusts off by two weeks'. The doctor bolded 'very important'. Not me.

Now, I don't really have crusts, per se, I never really did. My scalp is and has been pretty much normal color and presently I have no scabs that I can really see. However I do feel and see many, many little, prickly shafts that I thought were supposed to fall out as well.

Should I be concerned that the little shafts are still there? THX

    Hey dude.

Congrats. Please put up photos of your operation and continue to write your diary.

The scabs falling off is a great sign as is the fact the hair shafts are still in tight. Expect most of the hair to fall out in the next week or so. Many of us experience 10 to 25% of the hair stays in, grows and never falls out.

Then we wait for 2 months or more for the new hair to start to grow out.

Here is my procedure. Feel free to go there and tell me what you think.

    Coldskull,

If you have got all the scabs and crusts off then that is al you can do, the short hairs that you refer to will shed gradually over the next couple of weeks. All that you report is perfectly normal and as Drybone says a small percentage of the hairs will stay.

    Default Hey

Thanks guys and D.B., very well documented stuff and good luck with your growth. Not sure I wanna go so public with photos, but will consider it.

and btw, I also experienced some confusion about the amount, as a few different numbers were mentioned during and after the procedure, but the last they told me, it was 2700, so I will take it at face value.

I've been trying to do all (most) of the stuff that Spex has so graciously shared, as per the vitamins and aloe vera. Shout out to Spex for that list.

Can't wait to get the sutures out already.

Crusts are dead tissue above the scalp line which are different than scabs.

Many docs want this dead tissue removed by say the 10th day post-op unless the individual is slower in healing.

The dead crusting tissue serves no benefit and why some docs want their patients to remove them when appropriate.

Many of the graft hair shafts come out with the crusts. Some of the graft hair remains in the scalp and if it continues to grow than it is still in the anagen growth phase.

Sometimes the graft hair remains and does not grow any longer. Those are dead hair shafts and will eventually work their way of the scalp as new hair shafts come through.
