Default Hydrogel forms new skin and hair follicles

I just found this article: http://www.gizmag.com/hydrogel-skin-...e-burns/20876/. What's interesting is that they only use water and dissolved dextran, a sugar-like polymer. So maybe similar to what Hellouser is proposed with the dermaroller, we could set up a community trial for this.

This would be the ideal cure if it works on humans.

They have a fb page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Scar-...20446228073161

It is being updated irregularly. Maybe we can ask Qs?

    As far as I know...

The specific hydrogel they used in the study, which allowed for wound healing with minimal/no scarring, even on very severe wounds, also induced new follicle formation in mice. However it seems hard to make.(http://www.pnas.org/content/suppl/20...5973108_SI.pdf).

They have now completed/are completing an animal study on pigs which will be presented in about 5.5 weeks. (https://aiche.confex.com/aiche/2013/...per337043.html). The gel could go on the market for veterinary use within months, though I am skeptical. (http://inbt.jhu.edu/2013/07/09/burn-...eterinary-use/)

After this they are moving onto human studies. If it goes for sale for veterinary use next year sometime, maybe we could find a source for it. Perhaps wounding + this particular hydrogel could work like Follica.

    Also, here are patents:
    http://www.sumobrain.com/patents/wip...12158312A2.pdf
    http://patentscope.wipo.int/search/e...tab=PCT+Biblio
I know there are mention of growth factors, but I don't think they are included in the formula (though I read something about VEGF increasing cell recruitment or something like that).

And finally, here is the study:

ACtually it seems remarkably easy to make. Apparently it only contains water and a sugar-like polymer. I'd bet this could even be compounded by a pharmacist.

Actually I even see that some sort of hydrogel is even sold at Walgreens. Not sure if it's the same thing though: http://www.walgreens.com/q/hydrogel
