Difference between growth factors and minoxidil

Can you someone please explain to me the difference between minox and growth factors? Are they meant to be used in conjunction?
From what I understand, both target the active follicles, no matter how tiny and blond the hair is, and tries to prolong the growing phase, and hopefully turn them into terminal hair.
