21 years old. Is this hair loss? If so, what next?

As the title says, I am 21 years old and I am so afraid that I might be thinning at the top. A little background on my genealogy my mother's father never went bald but was thinning on the back during his later years. My uncles from my mother's side were never bald, but began to thin later in their years. My father, however, is almost completely bald. My father's father is also completely bald.

I have a unique two crown whirl and it has been a pain when styling so I generally stay off the hair products but I've realized feeling a little thin the past 18 months. Here are a series of photos from my last buzz cut to where it is now (a span of about...7 months?)

sigh life is indeed cruel. I visited a dermatologist but she keeps telling me it's a cowlick...but I see that I lose 15-20 hairs down the drain everyday. Should I wait a bit longer and compare results or take Rogaine for immediate action?

If you feel you are losing hair you should try to stay ahead of the hair loss. Because of the two spirals in your crown it may look like you are losing but in reality you are not it is the way the hair falls which makes it look thinner than what it really is. You can start with propecia or Rogaine both will help you keep the hair you have. There are some side effects with the use of propecia so be sure you do your research. Also, if you decide to use propecia or Rogaine you will have to be consistent in order for it to work. Rogaine works well in the crown and some times grows the hair back. You still have nice hair you might go to your local dermatologist to see if it is MPB.

Thank you so much for your input. I visited a dermatologist twice and she looked a bit bewildered at my claims, but sometimes I think either she's skeptical on breaking the news so I can wait and see future results in coming months before she can recommend me Propecia. I might just take the rogaine route to be honest. Arg. Mother nature is not kind.
