Can you inherit mpb from the female version?
There is no history of men in my family balding but my mothers hair is thin and she seems to think its getting thinner, is it possible that I got my mpb/diffuse shedding from her rather than a male gene?

You can inherent it from either side of your family and sometimes it can skip a generation. In short, it does not really matter.

I understand but is there a difference between a mpb gene and a fpb gene, could I have inherited a baldness gene that originated in females? basically could I have mpb because she has fpb despite no men In my family being bald?

It is more likely that your mother has some hair loss genes inherited from a male relative somewhere in her family and passed it on to you.
