Avodart 2 or 3 times a week

I've been doing this for 4.5 years. It was going great for a while. Stopped my shedding completely. Minor shedding may have picked up in the last couple of months, or it may just be me.

I have many patients who want to try avodart even though it does not have the clinical indication for MPB. It has been described as a stronger DHT blocker than Propecia. I generally recommend to my patients beginning treatment with Avodart to take it daily for the first month and then every other day starting in the second month. I have considered dosing it at every third day.

Does it really make a difference to take it everyday for the first month. I am going to try two times a week first then up it to three times a week. With the half life what it is what is the reasoning behind taking it everyday for the first month.

Not sure if it really makes adifference taking it everyday for the first month. My line of thinking is to try and get the medication into the system in an attempt to get results a little sooner. There is a good chance that the way you are going to take it will be just as effective. Good luck!

I am thinking of changing from Propecia to Avodart, but if I were gona take Avodart, should I take the 0.5mg or the 2.5mg one?

This supports my 1-2weeks each day then 3x a week does'nt it??
90% reduction after 1-2weeks daily. Given the half life don't you think three a week could sustain this reduction?

Effect on 5α-Dihydrotestosterone and Testosterone: The maximum effect of daily doses of dutasteride on the reduction of DHT is dose dependent and is observed within 1 to 2 weeks. After 1 and 2 weeks of daily dosing with dutasteride 0.5 mg, median serum DHT concentrations were reduced by 85% and 90%, respectively. In patients with BPH treated with dutasteride 0.5 mg/day for 4 years, the median decrease in serum DHT was 94% at 1 year, 93% at 2 years, and 95% at both 3 and 4 years. The median increase in serum testosterone was 19% at both 1 and 2 years, 26% at 3 years, and 22% at 4 years, but the mean and median levels remained within the physiologic range.
