"Alopecia" vs MPB

Gents,

I just recently went to see my GP, my blood test showed an iron deficiency and after examining my hair he said I have Alopecia (the loss is concentrated to one spot, which has been slowly thinning over the last 3 years).
He prescribed me a steroids cream - but I'm a bit dubious as he didn't even know what DHT was when I brought up the topic of MPB.
Does anyone have any experience with these creams?

Also, I have been using Boots Minoxidil for a little while, and whilst reading the instructions, one of the potential side effects listed is hair loss. Does it mean it can induce hair loss in otherwise healthy follicles?
