I'm not in New Jersey, so I couldn't point you to a dermatologist, but I will say that in my experience, a lot of HT doctors are pretty clueless when it comes to diagnosing different skin and scalp conditions. Most will just try to talk you into signing up for a procedure. I think you should see a dermatologist, but steer clear of someone who is heavily involved in the HT business.
There are many things that can cause hair loss. There is run of the mill androgenetic alopecia (pattern baldness), alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, severe malnutrition, scalp psoriasis, etc. You need someone who can really evaluate you, determine which of these you have, and come up with a treatment plan before you even think about having a procedure. That you are losing hair in the "safe zone" suggests to me you may have something other than typical male pattern baldness.
