Default Please help me understand the FUE process

I am trying to better understand the FUE process before I dive in..

    Basically

-the donor site is sanitized and numbed
-a hollow punch cuts the skin roughly 4 mm deep
    -forceps pull the follicle out
-a blade is used to punch a slit roughly 4mm deep in the recipient area
-the follicle is jammed in the slit

Is this basically how it is done?

Some docs use a blade and others use a needle for recipient-site creation. Still others use a "punch" on the recipient and actually remove little sections of your balding scalp that will be replaced with the grafts from the donor.

Every technique is "cutting edge" and will produce the best possible results ... according to the clinics that use them :P

Also, when the grafts are removed, do they trim the fat off of them or mess with them in any other way before re-insertion?

"That is a bit of a rough description of how FUE is performed, for in actuality the procedure is done quite a bit more delicately.
After anesthetizing the scalp, each individual follicular unit is extracted using punches or something similar- we use the specially designed Scribe punch that minimizes transection of the follicle. In most patients, the graft can then be gently removed, then transplanted into appropriate recipient sites. These sites are in my practice 0.6 to 0.8 mm, sometimes 0.9 mm in size (around 4 mm deep), sized to fit the grafts. These grafts are then inserted atraumatically into the recipient sites.
Please realize that the final result is most importantly determined by the pattern, direction, and angulation of the recipient sites- this is the artistry of the procedure."

Usually with FUE grafts, the less dissection of the grafts the better- for these grafts need to be handled delicately to assure the best rate of regrowth.

Using a jeweler’s forceps, in my office experienced hair assistants (who average 9 plus years working with me) gently place the grafts into the recipient sites that have been made by me. The recipient sites are sized such that they match the size of the grafts.
