Default Hair Transplant on July 23, 2009

I had my transplant, 750 follicular units, into my crown performed by Dr. Dow Stough, Hot Springs, Arkansas. From the moment I arrived until the time I left it was truly a stress-free, pain free, almost pleasurable experience.
I am blessed with a great head of hair and very little thinning in the crown, hence the need for so few units. The part I worried about most, the removal of the donor area, was so painless I feel asleep during it. I never felt the needles going in to numb the area. I must say that my pain tolerance is average at best. I was awake for the rest of the procedure and felt only mild pressure as the donor grafts were being implanted into the crown. Prior to surgery, I had a single Ativan pill, 2 mg. I was able to drive myself home (50 miles from the office) without difficulty, have not had any pain at all, and the staples were removed yesterday, July 30, again without any pain. I am rather amazed at my experience considering the horror stories I have read on the internet regarding pain during a hair transplant operation. Probably the worst part of the entire experience was applying polysporin to the donor area scar each day. That stuff is hard to wash out!

I have also started using propecia. I have used minoxidil for the last 14 years.

Oh yes, Dr. Stough provided not only me but his entire staff with some wonderful food during the procedure. I'm looking forward to my next one, if I need it.

Thanks for the opportunity this forum provides for hair transplant feedback.

Sounds like a great guy. Mine was on the 22nd. My doc, too, brought in pound cake made by his wife for everyone. His easy-going personality made the whole experience relatively stress free. It was only my on again, off again paranoia that has caused me any stress! LOL But things are going well here too. Post some pics if you can!

I am sure your results will be impressive. Dr. Stough is not only a excellent hair transplant surgeon, he is really personable and an all around nice guy. He was one of the first doctors I met when I started doing hair transplants 10 years ago, and was always there to answer questions and gave me some valuable pieces of advice. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him.

I'm very happy for you, 750 graft that is just a pinch, but you are staying ahead of the game which is a pretty good idea.

    Hats off......no pun

I think I missed your age. How old are you?

I'm 63. I am trying to stay ahead of hair loss. I also have a good amount of natural curl in my mostly gray hair.
