Default Please help! Will Minox replace my remaining hairs with whispy ones? Scared to start

Hi there I'm Ben I decided to join the forum and seek some advice...

I have been to my local hospital to confirm that I am a diffuse thinner, they advised I start on Minox 5% solution for my longish hair and also propecia.

Now after putting it off for nearly a year, I've decided to take the plunge!
My hair looks fine when it's dry and styled but when wet it looks dreadful and when it needs washing the thinning is more noticable!
    I'm 26.

Basically my concern currently after reading may posts is....

I have a decent amount of hairs left and theres no bald patches yet, so I'm worried that if I were to start minox that it would wipe out my thicker hairs and start to replace them with new thinner ones! SO in theory helping out by spurting new hairs but replacing thicker more manageable ones with the new 'minox thinner ones'. Could someone PLEASE advise me on what I should do?
    Thanks
    Ben

Quite the opposite, it will turn the thinner ones into thicker ones. You might go thru a shed, which is normal, and the hair will come back thicker. You need propecia to stop your hairloss with minox to thicken it up. I would go to a dermatologist and not the local hospital for advice too.

Ah right so the remaining hairs won't just leave a massive bald patch? I was worried it'd force away hairs and leave me with new hairs but not as many!

I suggest you visit a doctor who specializes in hair restoration. Some dermatologist do , but most do not. You will be able to get some good advice and learn what options you have.

Hi sorry I've confused you! Inhave been to my local hospital with a specialist dermatologist who's role is just for hair loss. He advised me to start on propecia and minoxidil. As I say I have a full head of hair that's really thin when wet but I can get away with when dry and styled. The crown is the thinnest area so I was scared the shed would speed up the process of it balding then leave me with new hairs growing that are more sparse and thinner!

I noticed a definite shed, and although I didn't think it made a difference to my hair's appearance. In hindsight I think it definitely did. However, now it's definitely starting to do it's work. My hairline is thickening up great and is starting to creep ever so slowly back down again. I think my crown is definitely thickening up to so I'm glad I stuck through the shedding.
