Default Hair thicker at root end - good sign?

So I've noticed that the hairs that I'm shedding from my temples are thicker towards the root end, seeing as the closer you get to the root the newer the growth is could it be seen that these hair follicles are recovering?

If I compare the thickness of the root end hair from my temples vs that of hair in the donor areas I can't really see a difference in thickness.

    Cheers.
