Default Need Advice on Old Transplant

Hello all....my first time posting. My story briefly:

I began noticing my hair receding in my mid/late 20s. For whatever reason, it became an obsession. At some point around age 30 I decided to investigate hair transplant surgery. I visited a reputable doctor in New York City...and at the time he was not willing to do anything...he felt it was much too soon. A few years later - and even more obsessed - I went to a general plastic surgeon is Boston that a family member had gone to. He was not a hair transplant specialist, but had performed the FUT procedure on numerous patients. Not realizing the difference between dedicated hair surgeon and general, I had, over the course of 2 years, three procedures done...each only 125 grafts...he charged $20/graft, I guess to make it worth his while. The work was not bad, and, with plenty of natural hair still hanging around it had the desired effect for a number of years. So you know where this goes...

I am now 45 years old, and mother nature has progressed. I still have a lot of hair, but my hairline has receded beyond the work done, and at this point, there is no option to wear my hair back...the hairline is a bit patchy/thin and the grafts are mostly 2 hairs/thick and noticeable. Fortunately my hair is pencil straight (and fine), do for now, with it styled forward, the hairline is not noticeable. It is becoming increasingly problematic though.

About two years ago I started investigating what to do about it. I visited several very well known surgeons and the feedback was almost identical: "this is no big deal...we will transplant around 1500 - 2000 grafts to the hairline to increase density and refine the hairline." There was one doctor in NYC who had a drastically different opinion...he did not want to do any further transplantation, rather, he wanted to remove the offending grafts and redistribute hair.

Like a lot of people who have undergone hair transplantation, and with the wisdom that comes with age, I simply wish that I had never gone down this path. Ironically, I am more concerned with people noticing the work then my receding hairline at this point. But, as they say, what is done is done. My goal now is to make the smartest decision possible and move forward. I am EXTREMELY nervous about going through the procedure again and potentially compounding my problem.

I am looking for any advise from people who have had a "camouflage" procedure, or gone the route of removal. Results, problems, etc. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks all.

As a 45 year old with a lot of hair, i think you would be an excellent candidate for a hair transplant. As you have most of your hair and crown hair this would most likely be a repair job.

I don't know much on this subject but you should contact Spex or Joetronic who could give you good advice and finding an excellent surgeon.

Have you taken any FDA approved meds for hair loss?
Who are the doctors you met with?

There is a good chance that you still have some good donor hair remaining. If so, with another procedure using the latest techniques could really improve your situation. You should have been told before you had the procedures that most likely you would experience further hair loss with aging and will require additional grafting.
