    The Future of Hair Transplants

I'm just wondering what level of progress is been made in the science of hair transplantation? It seems at present that we are still predominately stuck with the old donor method of hair transplantation, with all it's inherent limitations. However, is there any progress been made in the field whereby we are getting closer to a time when hairs from the face and body can be grafted onto the head, and done so that it looks natural in terms of appearance? I mean, how close would we be getting to the time when (a) hair transplants can be done with an abundance of non-depleting facial/ body hair and (b) a time when even a NW7 could go back to been a NW1?

That is exactly what I'm interested in too, as I have a dense beard. And I think currently this is the only viable option. God knows when hair cloning is really coming. I don't have much hope for that. Even if it does become a reality, the price would be steep! There is Dr. Gho who claims to make 2 hair out of 1, but I'm still not clear if the density of both these hairs is the same as the original hair.

Dr Gho has stated he is achieving donor regeneration in the region of 80% - Dr Nigam is now using DP cells from chest hairs and is currently reporting donor regeneration in the regions of 90 - 98%. Dr Cooley has reported some success of using plucked beard hairs and grafting them onto the scalp, he reports that scalp stem cells then convert these hairs to actual scalp hairs, consequently this treatment only works well in thinning areas and not slick bald regions as there are no active stem cells in such regions.

When considering the scalp of someone who is slick bald, I personally do support the theoretical position of Dr Cotsarelis in that stem cells do still exist in such regions, however they are simply producing miscroscopic hairs (if you can even call them hairs). Yet, after a number of years I think these stem cells eventually stop producing anything at all and the body simply removes them.

My thinking is that there is a so called point of no return, but it's many many more years after the point in which scalp hair is no longer visible to the naked eye.

This is why I am more interested in what Dr Nigam & Gho are doing with their methods of donor regeneration, if the cure is going to come, its going to come in the form of significantly improved hair transplantation methods (inter alia transplanting cells that elicit new hair growth). There wont be a magic bullet 'off the shelf' cream that will grow new hair on a slick bald scalp, that simply wont happen.

NW1 is not necessary for a MPB sufferer IMO. A thick, high density NW2 would be perfect for the average 25+ year old male.

So true! That is why I don't expect anything from histogen and aderans. The only thing bald guys like me can bank upon is hair cloning or like dav7 said if beard hair can be transplanted on head while looking like scalp hair.

Dr. Gho's HST is the most advanced technique now with enough proofs to support all their claims.
Dr. Nigam is making big claims now, but no proofs to back them up yet...

Unless I need a specialist hair transplant surgeon who is highly skilled in recreating a great hairline - I dont see any reason why I would go to any other doctor than one that has shown 80% regeneration in the donor region.

If you look at neversaynevers 9 month post-Gho operative pics and compare them to that of a patient who had a regular FUE transplant the results are simply staggering.

Before i went for my HST, i did an online consultation with Dr. Bisanga who i highly respect. However he drew me a very conservative nw3 hairline which i didn't like but i understand where he's coming from since i have diffuse thinning all over and with traditional HTs i have to be very conservative. Then i had my HST with dr. Gho who gave me a nw2 hairline that im very happy with.
I still don't understand why ppl keep saying gho does not create good hairlines!!! Look at all forum members who had HST, they all got pretty decent nw2 hairlines.

Well in that case I guess I'd have no other reason to go to any other doctor but Dr Gho. Seriously even if I got 30% donor regeneration its better than having traditional FUE with those huge white dots everywhere.

This is why I hope Dr Nigam has found (as he put it) 'the missing link' in obtaining 100% donor regeneration by using a mixture of DP cells combined with the grafted units.

Do you have a thread documenting your HT with Dr Gho? If so could you link it?

It is nice to see Dr Gho posting all of the clinics results in the hair transplant results section.

So far i only added pics of my donor couple of weeks post op:

Hello guys, Before going into the HT path, i was always looking for pics of shaved donor areas post HTs since i always keep my hair buzzed and all i needed is to work on the midront and hairline for now to frame my face since my hair line was almost completly gone, but i never found a post with detailed post op donor pics whih

I might add some pics of my recipient on the 9 month mark.

However, caddrik79, arashi, and tobban all documented their recipient.
