Is there such thing as starting too early?

So basically I noticed some thinning around there hairline and some receding around the temples. It is not very noticeable yet (only a few people have mentioned it).

The thing is I am not sure if its just a mature hairline or early stages of MPB as my doctor has said. He always says its hard to tell as of now since I have no thinning anywhere else.

I started using 5% minoxidil once a day and am wondering if that was a good idea? It's been 3 weeks and I have had a shedding phase, but I'm wondering if the minoxidil will do more damage than good if it just a mature hairline?

My dad didn't start to bald until his 40's but I have a cousin from my moms side that started receding at 22 ( not sure if this matters)
