Minoxidil on neck / sides?

So, I've been using minoxidil on my hairline, vertex, and crown for four months with what seems like reasonable success. I'm also experiencing a small amount of retrograde alopecia around my temple points, sideburns, and the nape of my neck. Has anyone ever tried minoxidil on those areas? I mean, theoretically, same principles apply, right? I don't see any harm in applying it in those areas, but I wanted to see if anyone else has any thoughts / experience.
