    Default Rogaine

I have searched online for hours about how long rogaine can work for people, so all i want to know is for the people out there reading this who use rogaine...

How long has it been working for you and do you apply it once or twice a day?

I'm just scared that it will only work for a year or two then become ineffective?

    Cheers

Good question Dan. I have been using Rogaine since it was first approved by the FDA, 1989 or something like that. I just can't remember the year. Back then it was prescription only and about $58.00 a month. I think the deal is the initial study by the manufacture was only something like 36 weeks so there is no clinical data on it's effectivenss past that point. It is so inexpensive now and has been for a long time that I just use it. Hard to believe but I have used it steady since then. Most time twice a day but some times only once. I am 57 years old and still have pretty good hair in the crown area. Is it still working for me, don't know. Would I be bald on top if I stop, don't know. Any other comments out there?

People like to theorise that Rogaine stops working after a certain amount of time, based on the speculation that the DHT eventually over powers the effects of the Rogaine (Minox).

There isn't really any evidence of this since as Glawre stated, studies were very short, so they can't claim effectiveness beyond that timeframe.

However, they also can't claim it works anywhere but the crown and vertex, since that's where the studies tested it, but I can tell you from personal experience I've had fairly cosmetically significant results on the temples and hairline after only 5 1/2 months of use.

The best evidence we have would suggest it won't work FOREVER, but it may work for years, especially if you use a keto shampoo to act against DHT.

The best evidence we have suggests that there are people using it successfully for 25 years. In the early long-term studies from late 80's, about one-third of patients were gaining hair even after 4-5 years.

I have used it for 15,5 years and it maintained my Norwood 1.5 hairline without any change. In fact, I have never thought that it could stop working. I switched from 2% to 5% after 11,5 years, in 2008, and it was apparently more effective than 2%, judging from the fact that I regrew few hairs on it. (I regrew nothing on 2%)

But it is always better to use it in combination with finasteride or dutasteride.
