Default Sod sexual side effects, just gimme my hair back..

    Lol..

    Let me elaborate.
Six years ago i sat in the hairdressers (no lie, it happened there), my hair was long and he cut it short. Then, he did the whole 'back of the head reverse mirror thing'....and...internally...i died inside.
Seriously, i felt as though my youth had been stolen, right there and then (i was only 22) and just after a nasty break up.
Since then ive ALWAYS shaved it skin head style, which doesnt look that bad on me to be honest, but i looked better with hair.
Well, over that six years ive rebuilt myself as such, got healthier and lost tons of weigh, better job etc.
However, i want to go full circle. Regaining my hair will feel as though ive fully restored myself, even if it isnt true.
Ive been on worse medications than Finasteride, horrible Anti Psychotics and some Anti Depressants. So im not especially frightened of Finasteride, cautious...yes, but not overly.
My libido isnt what it was 6-7 years ago and im not as interested as i used to be in impressing women. I know more than i should about medications and about myself and my physiology. Im adamant that i can properly gauge the true effects (if any) of Propecia, on me.
Also, having thought that i lost my libido on an anti depressant and anti psyc med, looking back i ENTIRELY realize that it definitely was not the medication. It was me and my mindset at the time, and blaming the meds back then made me feel better about myself.
I am NOT saying this is whats happening to people taking Finasteride.
Im sure some of the claims are totally real and i believe them, but i have trouble believing the people that say they got irreversible/permanent side effects after taking just a couple of pills...
Minoxodil, Finasteride and intermittent Saw Palmetto alongside a good Hair Loss multi vitamin and shampoo will be my regimen.
Keeping up healthy living, taking pride in myself and regularly exercising will keep my sexual juices flowing.
For the last six years ive been totally comfortable being bald, fully accepting, no reverse psychology. But now that im coming full circle, im fixating more on my lost strands.
I have thinning of the crown and a slight receding frontal line. My hair is dark and quite thick, and when long im hoping that the thinning wont be so noticeable...we'll see...

But its nice to be here, ive enjoyed reading the threads before i arrived. Funny, informative and optimistic.

    We deserve a 'cure'.

ps - My thinning is not terrible bad, visible, but not drastic. So im gonna try Finasteride, and see how it goes.

    Thanks,
    Bye.

    Hey mate,

I highly advise doing some research on finasteride before jumping to using it.
I still have thick hair but i'm a norwood 2 with minor crown thinning.

I seriously would rather go bald than take finasteride. I took only two tablets of the stuff, not over exaggerating by any means and woke up one morning and my penis was completely numb and lifeless, couldn't even get an errection after trying 100mg of viagra, never had previous problems before. After taking finasteride monitoring my testosterone + DHT prior to taking it my Test levels crashed and dropped progressively for weaks. I'm feeling better now since it took about 6-7 months to get over night sweats, muscle twitching and no sex drive/libido/function/reduced sperm. Most of this resolved, though it was the worst experience i've ever been through. My testosterone levels never fully regained, i'm 22 years old, fit, healthy.

Don't let my experience ruin yours, some people are fine with it. But I would never take an anti-androgen again.

OP, thank your lucky stars that you are one of the smart ones that doesn't think with the smaller of their two heads or listen to fear-mongering idiots. Best of luck on your journey. I'll see you on the other side where we will all have super-dense NW0/1's.

Aames....I'm not a fear mongering idiot. I said don't let my experience ruin yours. I'm clearly just stating "MY" experience, so that others don't have to go through the same thing, if there not familiar with potential side effects, that are a shit load more common than 2%.

I still have a thick head of hair and recession in the temples approx NW1.5+, not noticible with hair style.
I'd rather stick to stuff that's not going to ruin your sex life. Until a better treatment comes out.

There is nothing wrong with sharing your experience. So get back on your horse and stop being arrogant and you obviously haven't done your homework if you think there are no potential side effects for using 5AR2 Inhibitors http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5-alpha_reductase.

I was not directing that comment at you. I have nothing but sympathy for those that actually struggle with pfs.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Its definitely something we should discuss with our doctor beforehand. . However, in the spirit of fairness, you need to know you are in the VAST minority of men who even have any sexual side effects at all.

Let alone 'RUIN' your sex life

I would ask you to include the obvious truth that your case is not typical.

Things are by all means a lot better at the moment, can still have satisfying sex. Though i'm still stuck with low testosterone, which means my drive and energy levels are quiet low.

Sure it's not a typical case, I have no Idea why I had such a severe reaction to Finasteride. Though I said don't let my experience ruin yours. It's just serious fact that inhibiting 5ar2 or stopping the use of finasteride can cause issues down the track. 5AR2 plays an important role in sexual organs just look at people born without 5AR2 they are hemaphrodytes.

Anyway i'm not one of those people who are going to be totally against, I totally get why you would want to use it. But from what I did experience on the drug and coming off it after such a short time of using it. I'd never touch it again.

I do understand it's not your typical case though i'm a young fit 22 year old, early stage MPB, never thought it would happen to me.

Trust me Numb Genatalia for 3 weeks is not fun. I hope you have sucess with it :-)

Losing my hair felt like theft.

These drugs are also used with incredible effectiveness by transgender individuals. That is, people who are okay with PERMANENTLY altering their physiological make-up, but we all know, nobody on this website is after that, it's just unfortunate that the drug you take for hair loss is capable of doing just that, hence the permanent side effects.

Just ask the people on propeciahelp who are suffering from PFS if they still worry about hair loss lol. In a strange turn of events, some individuals even look for signs of hair loss to assure themselves that their endocrine system is hopefully returning to its original state, though for many this is never the case.
