You serve up an 'online poll' where guys give it a 1 out 5 because they develop depression after SIX YEARS of taking it? It must be the finasterides fault right.

Only took 6 years to get him depressed though

Didnt read a single complaint that it did not work. Even the complainers admitted it worked but whined about various side effects , usually depression which my bet is induced by other factors. Watery semen etc........

I dunno fellahs, these side effects (for the small percentage who get them) are pretty small potatoes to pay .

Look baldy, we all get it. You are horse shoe bald and bitter about it . Nothing worked for you and you are hoping it doesnt work for anyone else either.

    6 years lol .

      Informed consent?

Merck fought tooth and nail to avoid adding 'permanent sexual dysfunction' to the labelling of their products, only after hundreds of reports from patients who to this day are still experiencing sexual dysfunction including a list of other side effects including depression that has led to suicide in some cases.

      >>>>>>>>

      JULY 2012 STUDY: http://aace.metapress.com/content/t0...encesMode=Show

5α-reductases are a family of isozymes that play a critical role in transformation not only of testosterone but also of progesterone, DOC, aldosterone and cortisol into a host of neuro-active steroids that regulate multitude of functions in human physiology.... the neuro-active steroid hormones modulate multitude of functions in human physiology encompassing regulation of sexual differentiation, neuro-protection, memory enhancement, anxiety, sleep and stress, among others.
While the clinical use of 5α-reductases inhibitors was well established, the scope and the magnitude of the adverse side effects of such drugs especially on the central nervous systems is still unrecognized, due to lack of knowledge of the various physiological function of this family of enzymes, especially in the central nervous system.
There is an urgent need to better understand the function of 5α-reductases and the role of neuro-active steroids in human physiology in order to minimize the potential adverse side effects of inhibitors targeting 5α-reductases to treat BPH and AGA.
Until recently, the adverse effects of 5α -reductase inhibitor therapy were thought to be very minor and well tolerated (80, 81, 82). However, new information suggests that these drugs may impair sexual function including sexual desire, erectile and orgasmic function [Table 3](for review cf. 83, 84). Recent studies in animal models suggested that these agents alter penile tissue histo-architecture and nitric oxide synthase function in penile tissue and thus can contribute to erectile dysfunction (85, 86, 87).
It is particularly important to note that in a subset of patients, the effects of these drugs are long lasting and may be irreversible (84). An association between use of these inhibitors and depression is also noted (88), suggesting potential adverse effect on the brain. A number of case reports have suggested that 5α-reductase inhibitors therapy is associated with angioedema ( 91); cataract and intraoperative floppy-iris syndrome (92), pseudoporphyria, (93),T cell–mediated acute localized exanthematous pustulosis (94) and gyncomastia and male breast cancer (28, 95).
The recent introduced warnings on the drug labeling also suggests that increased awareness of the potential irreversible side effects of these agents [FDA].

INFORMED CONSENT: PROSTATE & MALE BREAST CANCER, DEPRESSION, SUICIDE RISK & PERMANENT SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION

INFORMED CONSENT EH?.... THE CHOICE IS YOURS LMAO!!!

Nobody hired you as the martyr to 'save' everyone from finasteride.

Study does not claim there is something fundamentally wrong with the drug. Its the sexual side effect of the hormones they want to take a closer look at .

They concluded pretty soundly nobody is going to DIE within weeks months or years of using it . Nor will their dick fall off.

So can you stop trolling the board and give it a $% rest ?

              agreed.
first of all facts are facts and they are out there, no one is forcing anybody to take fin or other medications. you are responsible for the consequences of your own actions. you decided to take fin and it crashed your life? blame yourself, not the drug.
even when I think drugs are not working for my loss I don't blame them, I just curse my f****** genes because I know they are working for other people.
so take your time to think, make a decision and be ready for the consequences. and if it does not turn out to be what you have expected, then it's nobody's responsibility but yours.

Agreed. Merck doesn't deserve this class act lawsuit. It's just a bunch of mentally unstable guys who want a scapegoat for their lack of mental fortitude and to make a couple bucks off the deal.

The only one who could be potentially the blame would be:
                1.) people self-medicating without self-informing
2.) a doctor prescribing fin without advising the patient on the sides

I'm certain there's quite a few people who fit 1.), but I sincerely doubt 2.) is ever happening. At least not with my experience in the medical worlds.

It's not trolling, I posted a link to an official study (one of many) outlining the proven side effects associated with the use of propecia, Mr "let science and objectivity make all of your life decisions" - big thinker? Pah! More like beaming lights in an empty home.

Mentally unstable guys, one of which committed suicide and stated he did so because of the sexual dysfunction and other side effects caused by propecia, love to see you say that to the faces of the family members who read his suicide note.

If you're taking propecia and not experiencing side effects, note that we are discussing POST FINASTERIDE SYNDROME - that is, the side effects occur AFTER the drug is discontinued, the body is unable to find its endocrinal balance and experiences a total hormonal crash, some people never recover.

I would also blame the society and women to make such an issue of baldness. If they didn't give a shit about it, men wouldn't be taking such desperate measures.

Why not? You saw Demi Moore when she was bald, she was still very attractive that way. Plus, women can always wear wigs. But if a man tries to wear a wig, people make a big deal about it.

And I think comparing baldness of women with man is like comparing Apples with Oranges. For example, strong jaws and chins look good on men but not on women. What I'm trying to say is that what looks bad on women might not look bad on men!

That's Demi Moore, I could use the exact same argument for bald men like Vin Diesel et al, some look great bald, most look horrible.
