Is it possible to preserve hair follicle

I was wondering if its possible to take out a hair follicle from the scalp and preserve it. In this way, a man could have half of his hair for example taken out and preserved, so that when a cure for baldness do come (something better than propecia lets say), he can have those hair follicles put back on his scalp.
