    Default Hairpiece after surgery?

Can anyone tell me what to do if you currently wear a hair piece but want to have a H.T. done. Can you still wear one until the new hair grows in?

What i'm trying to say is I currently wear a hair piece and i didn't want to drastically change my apperance so quickly (Im about a NW-5). I wanted to see if it could be worn for a short while and as my new hair grows in and at some point i'd give myself a really short hair cut and ditch the hair piece. Any suggestions?

    Hey finster,

    Welcome to the forum!

This can definitely be done, but it will take some finessing. One issue that you have to consider is that you do not want to use strong adhesives directly on your transplanted recipient area. Hairpieces should be avoided for at least a week after your procedure, and when you begin wearing again it should be attached using clips.

If the hairline needs to be adhered to the scalp it should be adjusted so that there is no adhesive directly on the grafts. You’ll want to remove the piece daily to insure the best possible environment for healthy hair growth and hygiene.

    Hope this helps.

Good answer Spencer. Here are a few other helpful hints. Once you are all healed and wearing the hair system again, make sure that with every service appointment, that the clips used to hold hair system to scalp in place be rotated. This will hopefully prevent a traction alopecia situation from developing.
As the hair is starting to grow (6-9 months) and you getting closer to taking hair system off, have hair removed from the system to thin it down. This will make the transition from hair system to hair transplant less obvious. It is also necessary to only use a hair system that has a meshing (breathable) material as its base.
