Default Apart from possible sides, is there any REAL reason to start with fin over dut?

I need to stop my hair loss RIGHT NOW!!!!!!! I cannot allow it to backslide any further. As such, I'm considering getting on dut instead of fin (I have been using fin for one month at this time). Is there any reason (apart from possible sides) I should not do this? Basically, I am asking will this hurt long-term hair retention in any way, shape, or form? I'm currently using the big 3 plus topical spiro. Considering RU in the near future.

You need to get yourself to a real doctor. You only think you know what you are doing - but you actually don't.

It can take a full 12 months to arrest your hair loss. It does not matter if you are taking Finasteride or Dutasteride. It's still 12 full months.

There is no good quality evidence to support RU.

Read the first post in this thread. It talks about the difference between DUT and fin.

Exactly what she said and keep this in mind as well.

Dutasteride has the same side effects as Finasteride just amplified to a higher degree so the symptoms will be more pronounced and obvious with Dutasteride as opposed to Finasteride.. you have only been on Finasteride a month that is not enough time which would be well past a year on Finasteride to indicate whether leaping to the deep end of the pool with Dutasteride is going to help you or drown you with side effects with that causing medical complications for you down the road.

People are freaking out with shedding a lot here on this forum. Without understanding that shedding is a natural mechanism even for people with healthy hair and no male pattern baldness the only difference is they don't have the inhibitors in their body chemistry that say "don't replace this hair and put the follicle into a rest state making it dormant and over time die out completely".

Your hair shedding is the result of your body's changing endocrinology and hormones regulating testosterone and dihydortestosterone combined with 5AR enzyme, and frankly natural aging and perhaps even stress which is all trigger pulling specific genetic markers in your paired DNA sequences that are dominant or recessive in your family tree of both your parents. It means your hair at the root and bulb is still there since you haven't mentioned seeing the white bulb at the end of the hair that is shedding but being pushed out early to make room for the miniaturized vellus hair that is coming or it is a rest phase and the next terminal healthy hair might be growing in.

I believe some of the treatments can actually reverse the hair loss so no reason to be in such a rush if you get it early anyways.

I don't know what I'm doing? I'm TRYING to stop my hair-loss. I REFUSE to get a prescription for fin or dut. I live in a small town and personally know many attractive female pharmacy techs and would sooner jump off a bridge than to have them know about my hair loss. It is still concealable at this point. I would be a laughing stock! Absolutely not going to happen; I will always self-medicate.

With that rant over, I guess I will acknowledge that I'm being impatient. I'm just extremely upset that I didn't start fin a year ago along with minox and nizoral. Even topical spiro I only added in August 2012. I'll be posting pics pretty soon for an evaluation of how far gone I am at this stage and to find out whether or not I need to start panicking.

Also, several studies show RU is effective and a lot of people on other sites seem to have success.

DUT will bring you better results for sure, but maybe fin alone along with minox and niz and a good diet will bring you back to where you you will be happy with yourself. You are already panicking that's okay we all went trough this phase! But maybe fin can already ease your pain and you'll get to keep some of your sex drive whereas DUTASTERIDE is much more likely to give you the libido of your grandfather.

At the risk of sounding facetious, that made me laugh out loud.

In all seriousness, I understand how it feels to be impatient. Probably 4 different occasions, I've went to an on-line pharmacy and almost started typing in my debit card number to get a purchase going, instead of waiting 1 month to see my derm. Each and every time, I tell myself to chill out, eat well, get exercise, and don't make any premature decisions.

As for dealing with the sexy pharm techs, I honestly think you could play your hairloss as non-concerning in order to defuse the situation. If not that, isn't there some way you can see a dude doctor and tell him you're embarrassed of your hairloss and don't want to deal with female pharm techs? There has to be some way to work around that. I'm sure dudes get viagra and stuff and avoid the awkwardness. Privacy is a big deal in the medical world - I'm sure they'll oblige.

Also, can't you get a script and order from a script-requiring on-line pharmacy?

    Best regards.

Anyone who takes Dut, with the known side effects and possibility of birth defects for children is INSANE.

I guess it just doesn't seem worth it. What is a doctor going to tell me that I don't already know? Is a prescription-requiring on-line pharmacy any cheaper than one that doesn't require a prescription? I don't see why anyone is suggesting that I visit a doctor.

I swear I've seen studies that put the occurrences of dut side effects to be VERY close to those of fin. Also, I would rather keep my hair than spawn my defective offspring.
