Default Results of 4 months of minoxidil and non-SLS shampoo

    Hi,

I just wanted to share my progress and experience in treating my hair loss.

1 year ago I decided to put an end to the hair loss and started researching on the subject. Here is the thread I started with pics of my hair then: http://www.baldtruthtalk.com/showthread.php?t=7313
I had slow hair loss, scalp itching and redness which has been going on for 4+ years.

I'll try to do a good breakdown and review of the products I used:

    Status of hair on 14.01.2012

    Nizoral ( Jan 2012 - Sept 2012)
2 times a week and left on for 3-4 minutes. It was supposed to help my scalp to stop itching but it didn't.

    Alpicort F ( Feb 2012 - August 2012 )
3 times a week. Recommended by a local dermatologist. Had no effect.

    Revalid Capsules ( Feb 2012 - Apr 2012 )
2 Capsules daily. Recommended by a local dermatologist. (expensive as hell) Had no effect.

    Crescina
Recommended by a local dermatologist - stopped visiting a dermatologist.

    Logona Daily Care Shampoo Bio-Aloe & Verveine ( Jun 2012 - present )
I wash my hair every morning with it. As soon as I stopped using Nizoral, my hair stopped itching and the redness was gone. I recommended it to my mother and she said her hair stopped falling too. I can't contribute any stopping of hairloss because of the shampoo because I started using Rogaine roughly the same time when I stopped Nizoral. Although Rogaine is supposed to only stimulate hair growth rather than prevent hair loss.

    Minoxidil foam ( Sept 2012 - present )
I got myself a 3 month supply of Rogaine foam and I gradually started to build up to the correct dosage. My gf began noticing positive effects around beginning of December (start of 3rd month). At the end of 3rd month my parents were noticing an improvement too. After I finished the Rogaine supply I got Kirkland's foam and I'm currently using it. I haven't experienced any change in how my hair reacts to the new brand.

It's not completely covered but I like the direction in which it's going.

Hopefully this will be of use to somebody.

    Thanks.

Excellent response to minox. Did you have side effects from Rogaine? Darker circles under eyes? Aging of face? Bloating? I would be on Rogaine in a heartbeat if it weren't for those potential risks, but of course everyone reacts differently. I'd stick with your regimen as it's quite obviously working.

I've not experienced any of the above. How can anyone not be ageing in the face? If they aren't, I wan't to know what they're doing! :P

I'm a hypochondriac so I'm most worried about side effects and here is my logic on it:
We're talking about a topical treatment here. It's not a pill which is being absorbed in your body and having contact with so many organs on its way. It's foam covering a small part of your skin. The small part of it that actually gets absorbed by the skin has very little change to influence anything other than the area applied to. Also, sides of rogaine are less common and less severe than propecia so for me it's the lesser evil you might say.

I am really interested in seeing some pictures with your side effects as I haven't seen any yet although I have seen many people reported it on forums. I have used 15% minoxidil for years. Luckly I don't have any of the sides.

hi perrier are you using any oral drug with the foam and what about frontal region?

No oral drugs. I'm taking cod liver oil softgels daily but that doesn't count as a drug. I bought a bottle of saw palmetto and used it for 1-2 weeks but stopped once my rogaine foam arrived. I was taking half the needed dosage for such a short period so I doubt it's something to discuss.

Frontal region, I had slow thinning and recession of hair line on the left side. It was not bothering me so I didn't take any pictures. I had thinning on the top of the scalp too but after starting to use rogaine it got thick again. The thinning around the hair line is slowly recovering but the hair line itself isn't moving forward so far. From what I've read here I see that generally rogaine doesn't help for receding hairline. I'm only using it to regain thickness.

    Thanks.
