Post Man’s sight restored with stem cell transplant

"Researchers are also working on using stem cells from deceased donors and even using limbal stem cells from a patient’s own eyes. While that would require growing the cells in a lab to force them to multiply, it would also mean that patients might be able to skip anti-rejection drugs.

Toronto Western Hospital has done 6 similar procedures since Binns was treated and all were successful. Most of those patients had suffered burns to their eyes from chemical injuries and some people had been living with birth defects of the surface of the eye.

    Ha, true.

This is pretty huge news concerning stem cells and their applications, though.

Thanks for sharing this great story, clandestine. I read about these stories all the time, of how stem cells are used to create phenomenal medical miracles. I really believe that such stem cell procedures could be used NOW to regrow hair except all I keep hearing about is hair transplants and nothing else. That really pisses me off more than anything. We need doctors trying other things. Take a look at this bro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXO_ApjKPaI.

We need applications like these to regrow hair and we need scientists or doctors with enough guts to try them. The hair loss community is so overwhelmingly underserved by today's hair restoration options, that's why most people don't opt for them. We need much better options, like a hair regrowth variation of the stem cell therapy that you linked.

Its all the rules, regulations and patents that hold back baldness treatments. A million things can grow hair on a mouse. You could probably bath a follicle in tea, in vitro, and then inject the cells into a mouse and watch terminal hairs grow.

There are just too many factors that cause follicles to bald.

Why not take 5000 body hair follicles, isolate the cells, inject them all into the scalp, and see if the new cells are recruited? Has anyone tried a simple approach like that?
