19 and in need of ADVICE.

Hello, I am new to the forums/hair loss community and have a few questions for some veterans. I am a nw2 or a little more at age 19 (almost 20). All I want to do is keep the hair I have and stop my hairline from receding any farther. I have started to take Propecia .5mg every day a week ago as well as using nizoral 1% shampoo 2 times a week, which I also started a week ago. How effective would this regimen be for the average person? Also, does anyone have any advice on if I should add to/change my regimen? Honestly I just want to make it to mid/upper 30's with a full head of hair and I would definitely consider a FUE ht later in my 20's if I can't control this problem with medication alone.

Worst comes to worst, hopefully I can maintain a good looking head of hair into my mid 30's...and at that time if there is no hope, just shave it off because at that age it wouldn't be a big deal to me.

Also, what is all this histogen talk about? Is it going to be a legit alternative/better help than propecia?

oh and one more thing....what would propecia's effectiveness be at .5mg EOD? I've heard that it can be just as effective at a lower dosage and every other day? Just wanted to clear a few things up..

Propecia can definitely be effective at the dosage you're using, and dosing it every other day is something many guys do with success.

Frankly I think you've got a good regimen going already. I would be hesitant to add Rogaine to it as it usually isn't much help at the hairline and I've heard too many reports of it making matters worse for that area.

Yes, the first day I had testicle ache. This ache was bad the first 5 days but is definitely getting better. I got watery ejaculate on the 3rd day on it and it has started to go back to normal. Also I had slight ED and haven't had morning erections/as solid of erections, but I believe some of it may be in my head and every day I have been on it I have started to feel better and better. I think it just takes the body some time to get used to a new drug and a new change. Too many people over think it all, so I'm trying not to think of it as I don't want my mind to create sides on it's own.

Now I have started what I like to call the PNP program

Procpecia, Nizoral, Pray. Let's hope this works.

Rogaine/minoxidil has been of great benefit to my hairline although it isn't 100% repaired so I will be going for surgery next year. I think it depends how long the hair roots have been dormant. Borderline hairs that are dying are capable of being "saved", but be prepared for a big shed. If you do shed, bear in mind it's a good sign the drug is working, so don't be put off.

The new "Big 3". Rogaine is too expensive.

You can buy generic Rogaine that is inexpensive. I pay about £50 for 6 months of it.

Yeah, if my hairline continues to recede drastically then I may start rogaine, but it has been receding slowly for years and I wear my hair long so I'm not super concerned about it, I just want to keep what I have and I believe Propecia will do that for me, or atleast buy me some time and then get a transplant mid-late 20's and see what new treatments are out in the next 7-10 years. I just don't want to commit to putting rogaine in my hair twice a day yet..
