Do Zinc supplements increase DHT?
I am hearing conflicting reports on this topic - does anyone have any further insight into this debate?
By Zinc supplement i mean: 25mg
I know that Zinc increases testosterone but does it then convert this to dht?
As you can tell i'm confused about whether i should discontinue the daily supplement of zinc to balance out my Fin use.
I don't want to interfere with Fin's progress by taking something that counter acts it's soul purpose (lowering dht)
Cheers

My understanding is that zinc inhibits 5-ar and so it should decrease DHT and increase T. It also inhibits the aromatase enzyme and thus will inhibit estrogen formation. The effect will not be dramatic except at very high doses in which case the enzyme can be inhibited completely, at which point toxicity becomes an overwhelming concern.

I have nevere seen or read any studies that link Zinc to DHT. I doubt that a moderate supplement of Zinc would significantly effect DHT levels. Zinc is in the group of viamins and minerals that may have an effect on hair health and quality.

Thank you kindly for your informative responses - i had read two conflicting articles and was in limbo about whether to continue a daily supplement.
It goes to show that if you logically sort through all the bullshit in this forum you can actually gain some knowledge from informed people like yourselves. Cheers!

Hair Growing Supplements ( not written by Spex)
Eat right, exercise, reduce stress, rest, gets lots of sleep and your are well on your way to maximizing your hair growth potential.
You can either take a good supplement that contains the necessary vitamins and minerals or you can make up your own formula.
While eating the proper foods that contain all the necessary vitamins and minerals will help, it is a lot more difficult to guarantee that you will get all the vitamins and minerals you need from the foods you eat.
List of Supplements
In addition to making lifestyle changes, taking the following supplements every day can boost hair growth for many people:

We advise patients that Zinc if taken in high dosages can antagonise other minerals such as Magnesium and Copper, so worth checking if you are supplementing with it as to possible side effects at certain doses.
As said a balanced diet is advisable and to not target one mineral only, multi vitamins and minerals may be a better option than zinc alone.

It goes back to the original ZMA studies by balco labs (steroid guy in sports). where zinc was given to athletes deficient in it and it increased their testosterone. It does this by effecting the 5ar enzyme which converts testosterone to DHT. so it actually decreases DHT and increases testosterone which is why zinc in anti-dandruff shampoo has been shown to actually thicken hair.
