    Default Just starting treatment. Advice?

    Hey all,

    First off I must say that this site is great. I've been browsing it for the past few days and there is some great info to be found.

    I'm a 29 year old male that in the last few months noticed that my hair is thinning slightly on my hairline and crown. You would not really say it to look at me as I still have a fairly good head of hair, no noticeable bald spots but I do see that it is thinning out.

    I would very much like to thicken up my hair again, or at the least maintain what I have right now.

    LAst week I started minox. 2% treatment and started taking biotin and saw palmetto everyday.

    Is there anything else I can do? Or is there anything I should change?

    Thanks for any advice in advance!

    Welcome. This board has been very helpful for me, and I think you'll continue to find it to be as well.

    If it's MPB (which I'm assuming you don't know whether or not it is), you'd prob want to be removing the DHT from your scalp. Fin and/or nizoral would be the way to go there if you're comfortable with the potential sides. You'll need a doc for fin, and should probably see a doc to get a diagnosis before you get too into treatments.

    id do 5% minox, more effective than 2%.

    as you're very early in loss, stay just on Minox for a bit and monitor it, if it seems to get worse, start to consider something that will halt the loss much better, such as Finasteride.

    @BigThinker

    You are right that I honestly do not know if it is MPB or not. I've heard of shampoo you are talking about and I'll give that a try as well. Once a week seems to be the amount of time to use it?

    My personal opinion on fin is that I don't think I'm going to try it due to the side effects. Nothing against anyone who wants to go that way, just don't think it's for me.

    @Rdawg

    I was debating trying the 5% but I was worried that it would be a little harsh on my scalp as I have very sensitive skin. Would that be an issue do you know?

    Also I know that this is a topic of great debate around here but does anyone know what the chances are of me experiencing a shed to the point where it will become noticeable even though I have not lost much hair before starting Minox?

    Thanks in advance for any info!
