The strip scar can be hidden right away if your hair is long enough. If you're also asking about how the recipient area would look then it can remain red for some time after surgery. Exactly how long depends on the individual and their skin characteristics, but some pinkness can remain for months after surgery. The worst will be gone within a few weeks. At two weeks post op the patient can start removing the scabbing, which will be coming away by itself at that point. If you can take 2-3 weeks off work after surgery then that would be good.
Dr Rahal likes patients to use Rogaine on the recipient area post-op to help stimulate quicker growth from the grafted follicles.
