Why Azelaic Acid should work in theory
DHT causes an increase in p53 and p21 expression, which leads to DKK1 apoptosis of the hair follicle. Azelaic acid represses p53 and p21.

Also, apparently Azelaic acid competes with the NADPH sites of 5 alpha reductase. No clear proof, but sure explains why some articles and people on the forums with acedotal evidence claim that Azelaic acid works as a 5 alpha reductase inhibitor.

This is how azelaic acid may hinder hair growth.

Azelaic acid inhibits thioredoxin reductase. Thioredoxin reductase is required for NF-kappaB DNA binding. NF-kappaB is needed for the anagen cycle in human hair follicles.
Any thoughts?

I use this combination past 2 years and this formula works wonders for me:
15% minoxidil
1.5% azelaic acid
0.1% finesteride
0.25% progesterone
0.025% tretinoin.

Good to know, Jazz. Could you please tell where do you order this topical?
Also, are you using oral finasteride?
Thanks!

The combination works perfect I tried topical fin alone and it didn't help compared to that mixture, don't know but there's something about the mixture that helps, maybe all the ingredients work together.

Thanks! Just let me ask you one more thing: have you tried Lipogaine? If so, how did you like it? I am trying to substitute the rogaine foam for another minoxidil and it seems that their formula brings Azetinol (azelaic acid + retin A).
Any thoughts?
