    ruxolitinib

Seventy-five percent of patients with moderate to severe alopecia areata—an autoimmune disease that causes patchy, and less frequently, total hair loss—had significant hair regrowth after treatment with ruxolitinib, reported researchers from Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC). By the end of their treatment, average hair regrowth was 92 percent.

    Seems like a good news

"We expect JAK inhibitors to have widespread utility across many forms of hair loss based on their mechanism of action in both the hair follicle and immune cells," said Dr. Christiano.

Have any of you priced what ruxolitinib costs? I just googled it and seems to be around $11K for 60 pills. Ouch!

Compare Jakafi prices, print discount coupons, find manufacturer promotions, copay cards and patient assistance programs.

The whole pricing thing would probably be a wait and see thing if they started using it for this application. My assumption is that that price factors in that insurance would be paying for it if it was being used for its original application. Since HL would likely be considered cosmetic, I think the great majority of insurance companies would not pay for it. However, I don't know if it would ultimately be cheaper, the same, or more expensive than the price that website lists.

Take it for granted that every super rich balding SOB will be on board as soon as this comes out, so the company could rely on guaranteed sales from that segment no matter how high they priced it. Or they may decide that there's a lot of married family men that would buy it if it was reasonably priced but not if it's super expensive, so to increase the overall consumer base (and thereby get more profits) they might price it more reasonably.

One thing to think about though is how high nearly all drug companies have been jacking up their prices the last few years, even for life-and-death drugs; most of us have seen in the news some outrage about that (which hasn't often led to the drugs being dramatically reduced in price), but unfortunately I think a lot of people would look at this as something purely cosmetic, elective, and somewhat frivolous, and I don't think there would be a lot of outrage among the non-balding community (the jerks!) no matter how high it was priced.

Does anybody have a guess on how soon we will know if this works for AGA? It just seems too good to be true.

Nevermind, they are testing it first quarter 2017.

                        Godspeed.

Bosox, could you provide a source, please? Not doubting you at all, but that's very good news and it would be great to see where the info came from. Thanks!

I'm trying to find it, somebody on hairloss2020 site commented they will start first quarter 2017, and had link. I'll look for it.
