Default Propecia and erectile dysfunction, quit Propecia... back to Propecia ?

    hi everyone,
I'm new here and i'd like to share my story and ask for advice.
I will turn 39 in a few days and I started using Propecia about 5 years ago.
hairloss was moderate back then. no loss on the vertex and a moderately receding hairline.

after a few weeks of taking the pill, I found out that erections were not exactly the same as before. but I didn't pay much attention since erections were still good to excellent (they were probably excellent all the time before taking Propecia) and erections and libido are connected to the psyche, not only to the body and testoterone level.
last December, after a few months of poor sexual activity and a loss of libido caused by the lack of attraction to my girlfriend, I met someone else, someone extremely attractive and I suddenly faced a total loss of libido. I got pretty anxious and after two weeks, I decided to stop Propecia for a while. I heard that the effects of Propecia were not always obvious, even less obvious on the hairline. in December, I still had no hairloss on the vertex, and my hairline was still slowly receding, as well as the sides. so I was thinking that quitting Propecia would help me assess the real effects of Propecia and may solve my erection/libido problem.
small addition : after many years of generic Finasteride, my pharmacist got me real Propecia again and that was also in November or December. could that trouble my metabolism and cause my loss of libido ?

3 months later, nothing yet was happening on my head. my erectile dysfunction was still evident but a little less tragic than in December.

6 months later, last June, I started getting rashes on my head and shedding started. the number of hair lost in the bathtub was impressive and my hairline and sides recession started to speed up big time. my chesthair is also suddenly growing (and I don't like that)
my erectile problems were clearly diminishing. at the exact time the rashed started, I had one or two weeks of huge erections and enormous libido, probably the best I had since I was 15. it then started to calm down a little and I got to a point where my erection/libido (they're totally interconnected) was just a little under the average I had in my early thirties (after this massive surge I just mentionned) , which is certainly good but still a little disappointing compared to how I was peforming 5 or 10 years ago. of course, I know that I'm also aging...

8 months later, as of today end of August, my hairline and sides are still receding a lot, rashes are still pretty bad, my hairchest keeps growing and my erection/libido is about the same as it was in June.

now I'm concerned about the shedding and I fear that if it keeps going like this for a few months, my hairline and sides will definitely be severely damaged. again, nothing noticeable on the vertex.

I'm seriously thinking of starting Propecia again.
    because :

    - if ever I have a hair transplant in a few years, a return to Propecia will be strongly advised by doctors.

    - rashed and shedding clearly show that Propecia slowed down my hairloss (I was not certain before I stopped taking it).

    - it's really hard to know whether Propecia was responsible for my erectile dysfunction or not.
*the arguments in favor of a guilty Propecia are : major improvement of my erections and libido after I quit Propecia.
*the arguments against are : only a slight erectile dysfunction for 5 years that might be caused by aging, a sudden loss of libido that might be caused by a strictly psychological issue.

    two small additions :
I don't even even remember when was my last morning wood but that was years ago. I didn't care about that when my erections were still satisfying but now, I'm thinking this lack of morning energy may not be a good sign.
the use of Cialis/Viagra helped a lot in some circumstances and in others, drug didn't help at all (I know that this medication does nothing for the libido, it only helps the erections to last longer)

at the same time, I'm scared. I read that some men couldn't go back to a normal sexlife even after quitting Propecia and I guess 5 years of propecia, 9 months without it and a return to Propecia might totally disrupt my metabolism and chances of a loss of libido for good is not to be excluded.
I know, I want my sexlife to be good and I want my hair...

    I have three questions :
do you know how long the shedding will last ?
do you think Minoxidil could help stop the shedding and be a good alternative to Propecia with much fewer effects on my libido ?
or should I just take Propecia again ?

more generally, all your thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thank you very much for reading

Here is one way to get a full head of hair, and no sides:

    1. Get a hair piece.
    2. Quit finasteride.

Easy for me to say, as I'm completely bald, and have lost all hope for hair, and am depressed.

Now that sides are pretty much 100% likely, option one is really the only thing we can do.

I never understood why is it considered so bad to wear a hairpiece. Bald women wear wigs all the time. Why such double standards? If a man thinks he looks better with a hairpiece, then why society makes it such a big deal?

I think one should never take propecia after 30, as estrogen levels are already rising in your body. Propecia aggravates this. And God knows what effect does it have also on for example, your Cortisol levels, which are also increasing with age. After all, its your body, and not a chemical plant. And why would someone care about his hair at 40, when you are already old!

20 yeard olds will say 40 years olds are old, 40 year olds will sya 60 year olds are old...

any idea anyone (besides the let's make a joke hairpiece part) ?
I really don't know what I should do and going back on propecia could well be ridiculous but I do fear I'll lose quite a lot of hair in the next months due to the massive shedding that started about 2 months ago.

You still taking this poison? Quit while your ahead. You have one of 2 scenarios: 1. Your propecia sides don't kick in till after years of use and will do long term damage. 2: when you do quit you will experience PFS whether or not you had sides. Sooner you quit the better. P

Maybe when you reach 40 you will be content will being an unattractive slob, but I plan on looking good for as long as I can. I am 38 and in better shape than guys 10 years younger than I am. I am sure you will appreciate it if your wife lets herself go at 40.

It is sad that so many people think their lives are over at 40.
