I am considering Rogaine foam but don't like the fact that I will have to rely on it for ever.

If you have hereditary hair loss, it does not matter what you use to try to treat it, you will still have to continue using whatever that is for the rest of your life. This is a reality you need to learn how to accept. Any company selling a treatment that claims or implies that you do not have to keep using it is lying. This is just the way it is.
