    Propecia to Generic Finasteride....Help!

Im pretty sure this topic has been covered, but I want to know your guys opinion about the generic Finasteride. I went to the pharmacy today to get my refill for propecia and the pharm tech employee me asked me if I was aware of the price. I sadly put my head down and said yes. $88 dollars for 30 pills! Im a broke college student and I dont have the income to continue to buy Propecia.

Ive seen there is a generic FINASTERIDE that is sold in a 5mg tablet and was recommended to be cut into 4 pieces. Do you think I should switch over to the generic? And is it the same? Has anyone had any problems with it? What were your results? I would appreciate if you share your story and give me feedback.

Not sure about 5mg tablet. But, generic finasteride 1mg is available in most countries (not sure abt US). In India, Finpecia (finasteride 1mg) is 10 pills for $1.00

Propecia is a rip-off. Get a prescription for Proscar and cut the pills into 4s. Proscar isn't cheap at $60 something for 30 counts, but 30X4= 120 days (if you use it daily). 240 days if you take it every other day. $65 every 4-8 months is pretty cheap. and yes, it is the same stuff (Finasteride).

Hey take a look on this website I found posted on a different thread.

Is that really true? Because the "doctors" on this forum has said Propecia and proscar are the same dosage if both are 1mg. Assuming that the compound composition within the 1mg are the same with Propecia and generic finasteride.

"Some initial shedding is possible with either Proscar or Propecia. They are the same ingredient and should lead to the same results. As long as the quarters of the proscar are around 1.25 mg you should be alright. I do not think that a little under or over would cause any harm."- Dr. Glenn Charles

Dr.Glenn says its the same composition but the website said its not true.

        Check out this thread http://www.baldtruthtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1750

No one commented back about the validity of the website.... not even the doctors.

Then I went on the google to see the reviews of the two medications (Propecia vs Generic)

        Propecia Reviews http://www.druglib.com/ratingsreviews/propecia/

        Generic Reviews http://www.druglib.com/ratingsreviews/proscar/

Propecia and proscar both have good reviews, but propecia has more reviews than proscar. Winner? You tell me

I got it via prescription. I don't know why it's so overpriced.
Hey, over where I live. I can get generic finasteride for 9 bucks if I join their program (Pharmacies @ Target and Walmart). Otherwise, its $30 for 30 pills like you said.......

Thanks for replying to my post. Are you on the generic brand Scorpion?

I get proscar for free. HT doc script. Insurance pays for it. Probably because its proscar and not propecia.
