Default More hair loss with Bosley Revive?

I'm a 27 yr old female and have noticed my hair thinning (nothing too noticeable) for the last 7-8 yrs. I have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis and keratosis pilaris, resulting in patchy irritated areas with skin build-up. The patchy areas are mostly along my hairline which are the same areas where my hair has thinned the most.

I have tried tar shampoo, prescription shampoo (keta-something?), and many other things. I have never been able to get the patches to go completely away, but Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment with selenium sulfide has minimized them so that they are not inflamed or noticeable.

However, the thinning still bothered me, so my hair dresser recommended Bosley Revive. I purchased the starter set for color treated hair that came with shampoo, conditioner, and volumizing treatment and used as directed. I usually wash my hair every 1-2 days and follow with a blow dry (something that I need to do in order to keep my patchy areas in check).

The first week or two my scalp felt fresh, like it could breathe, and the slight itchiness I usually experienced had stopped. My hair was bouncier and dried in less time.

It's now about week 5 or 6 and for the last few weeks I have been experiencing massive amounts of shedding. I will brush my hair right before taking a shower and get about 40 strands, then when I'm shampooing and conditioning I will get well over 100 more. This doesn't even include the multiple hairs that just fall out during the day. Also, if I run my hands through my hair at any given time I'll get about 5-10 strands.

I am not on any medication. I have not recently had a child. I take a basic Kirkland brand multi-vitamin from Costco, 5,000 mcg of Biotin, and 2,000 mg of fish oil daily. I have not recently changed any of my eating or exercising habits either.

Could this be some sort of shock loss associated with the Bosley products? Maybe my follicles are shedding old hairs to make room for new ones? Until I am able to see a doctor and dermatologist I have stopped using the Bosley products and returned to my tried and true Head and Shoulders. I've always had fairly fine hair but TONS of it, think Texas beauty pageant with no hair spray or teasing needed. Now my hair is flat and you can see through to my scalp. I've never experienced anything like this! Thoughts anyone?

Purchasing a hair loss treatment from your hair stylist is probably not a good idea. If the product contains anything that claims to lower DHT in the scalp it is possible that this is why you are shedding and in most cases the shedding should slow down after a few months of continued use. Bosley has a very sketchy reputation, so on a personal note I would never use anything that has their name on it. You should probably see a dermatologist and a real hair loss specialist to see what your options are.

My hair stylist tried to sell the crap to me too. It’s a shame how these people try to take advantage of all of us.
