Scalp WON'T turn RED no matter how long I use my derma pen

Hey y'all. So I have a derma pen, and no matter how long I use it my scalp wont turn red. I've pushed till it starts bleeding, and my scalp is always itchy after, but I heard that your scalp must turn red for it to be effective. Am I doing it wrong?
