Shedding hair : Hair loss or breakage?

    Hi guys,

I have just traveled from a tropical country to the a place in the US, which is significantly colder than my country on an average. I have been here for a month. For the past 20 days or so, I have been experiencing shedding. I am indian18's friend and you guys have said that my hairline is straight and is okay and that i am not balding already by looking at the pictures I and my friend posted previously. I would like to know if this shedding is like hairloss or balding or is it just due to extrinsic factors or due to hair breakage. I took about hair bath just roughly dusted my hair for about 1 minute and about 25 hairs have fallen down. However only about 1 or 2 hairs have a white bulb attached to them and the rest have no bulb at all. Also almost all of them are of the same thickness. Also, back at home I used to wash my hair after oil application for 3 days a week. But since I am here I haven't been that frequent. What are your guys' views on my condition? Am I balding? Or is it just normal shedding that I shouldn't worry about? PLEASE PLEASE HELPPPP!!

I didn't use shampoo while taking the head bath today. I just poured water on my head. However when I do use shampoo, there's not much shedding on that day and for a day or two after that day. I must also mention that the shed hair IS NOT coming from only one localized part of the scalp. It is coming from all over. Also, my family DOES NOT have a history of Diffused loss. My father has MPB NW4V but he started balding only at 40 years of age or so and I'm 18 right now. Please help guys.

It's unlikely that you're suffering from MPB but you shoud consult a specialist if the shedding persists.

No. I must tell that hair falls only when I vigorously rub it. The length of my hair is about 5 inches. I have a feeling that's it's more like hair breakage. Because I didn't experience much fall when my hair was shorter.

One of the 1st things you should do is go for blood tests, i wasted 3 years of untreatable hairloss due to not been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism during that time. So rule out any hormones first, i got told strawberries, kale etc was good for hair...turns out if you suffer from thyroid troubles they can make things worse so diet can be a factor. Also you say rubbing causes it? if thats the case you should have patches where you only rub it hard

I don't have patches anywhere on my head. It's not Areata for sure. Besides the hairs are really thick and have no bulbs. Could it be normal shedding or acute telogen effluvium?

I've read that sudden mild to low moderate shedding can't be mpb. Besides I think I'm losing about 80-100 hairs now without meddling with my hair and most of these hairs don't have bulbs. But when yesterday when I wet my hair and ran through it vigorously with my hand for a minute 22 hairs fell and all were of the same thickness without bulbs except for maybe one or two but not more . that's well our of the mpb range right? Or no?
