    WAW System

    Hello All:

I recently had a consult with a well known surgeon. He mentioned the WAW SYSTEM is what he uses for the FUE Method. Is something new ? I have not heard of this at all...

    WAW System

The WAW system was developed in Belgium, and is unique in the FUE punch. The punch, called a trumpet punch, has a sharp exterior surface but a blunt interior surface. The purpose of this hybrid punch is the sharp surface incises the skin, and the blunt surface decreases transection of the grafts. The fact that the surgeon uses this system is a good sign that he/she is staying updated to new technology in the field.

Thank you Dr Vories for the explanation. Would you know if this system also allows for more grafts to be extracted in a single session ?

Our experience is that the WAW system is slower than using sharp punches. So from a time standpoint, we can extract more grafts with a sharp punch system.

Also I wanted to know if there is a greater yield rate when it comes to using the implanter tool or making incisions and then inserting the grafts into the incision sites.

If I haven't used the correct terminology please accept my apologies..

Your terminology is spot on. Our experience is that implanter pens increase the survival of FUE grafts, and we exclusively use them for graft placement.
