1200 graft repair case and scar revision, Dr. Lindsey McLean VA

This fellow had a few poor experiences elsewhere and presented wanting improvement of both his scar and sparse hairline. He’s a mixture of Korean and American with salt and pepper hair. I had him do a month of stretching preop.

We went over carefully the double-edged sword of trying to get both hair and scar improvement (which I’ve posted separately on this forum under the title “double edged sword”). Essentially you can get more hair and leave the scar, or less hair and improve the scar a lot, or some of each and try to get some improvement, but not perfection, in both the scar repair and hair transplant if you do both simultaneously.

We excised his scar, did a 3 layer closure, which was easy except on the left corner. We got 1200 grafts and placed them in between the hair that he’d already received. He did a superb job cleaning the recipient area, and an average job cleaning the suture line. We’ll see him in a month for a scar check and if he comes in I’ll try to get some pictures for posting. He and I have the same musical tastes and was one of 4 of our patients who I saw at a local cover band concert over the weekend. Hair tends to grow better to Led Zep…or at least that’s what I’m telling myself.

Unfortunately with hair....it takes a long time for happiness to occur. Particularly with repair cases. Probably NEXT valentines day he'll be happy.

      I'm happy though.
