Hair Transplant loss at 3 months?
i had a transplant 3 months ago. Not a lot of the grafts fell out in the usual shockloss period, nor did they grow very much either until recently. However, i have noticed in the past week that the grafted hair seems to be falling out. i do have a minor case of folliculitis being treated with antibiotics. any ideas?

Thank you Dr. Haber for your encouraging reply.
Is this sort of thing something some of your patients experienced or is it more theoretical? Has anyone else experienced such a phenomenon?

coach494,
Everyone's timeclock of events can be different. For the average, most of the transplanted hair falls out much sooner than 3 months. In some cases this can be be due to the patient avoiding massaging the grafted area when shampooing. If you apply slightly more pressure when rubbing the suds, you may find lots of hair shafts coming out because as Dr. Haber said, the new shafts are coming through at this point in time post-op so chances are that most of the transplated hair that was within the grafts are no longer connected to the dermal papilla and are dislodged.
I remember a patient who had a very similiar post-op experience like you whereby his recipient area actually became somewhat inflamed with pimples because the dead hair shafts within his grafts began to fester with his scalp. I remember the doctor actually using a forceps and pulling out as much of the dead hair as possible. He also advised the patient to get more aggressive when shampooing the recipient area.
