I want to start reading books again
I think reading would help us all think about other things. The last book I read was The Giver. It was alright, but it was short and it seemed better suited for Jr High kids, i'm 24.

Any one recommend some good books with a good story? Preferably a long/college level books.

What are your tastes like? Do you like classic literature?

    http://www.artofmanliness.com/2008/0...-mans-library/

That is a pretty damn good list of books for you to get started on. There's a lot of classics and they left out Pride & Prejudice-type books that most people find to be boring.

I only add my two favorite modern books:

    The Beach by Alex Garland
    Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh

As Aames said, without knowing your tastes, it's difficult to give any recommendations. Are you looking only for fiction? Some personal favourite novels of mine...

    'Cryptonomicon', Neal Stephenson.
    'Eleanor Rigby', Douglas Coupland.
    'Ripley's Game', Patricia Highsmith.
    '1984', George Orwell.
    'The Killer Angels', Michael Shaara.
    'Breakfast of Champions', Kurt Vonnegut.
'How late it was, how late', James Kellman.
    'I, Lucifer', Glen Duncan.
    'The Belljar', Sylvia Plath.
'Day of the Triffids', John Wyndham.
    'Anna Karenina', Leo Tolstoy.
'The Killings of Stanley Ketchel', James Carlos Blake.
    'Birdsong', Sebastian Faulks.

Yeah, you guys are right. I love Science Fiction novels. I read 1984, great book.

The reason I left out what i'm in to is because i'm willing to read on different genres. I wanted to expand my options and not limit myself to one genre, you know.

Thanks for the list and links guys, i'll check them out.

    Both seconded!

Donna Tartt - The Secret History. Very well-written, great story.

John Niven - Kill Your Friends. More of an 'easy read' but still hilarious

Blaine Harden - Escape from Camp 14 - True story about a North Korean's escape from a prison camp. Harrowing stuff.

Daniel Keyes - Flowers for Algernon - classic sci-fi.

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card (sci-fi)

The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury (sci-fi/anthology)

Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut (war novel with sci-fi elements)

Devil In the White City by Eric Larson (about a Chicago world's fair and serial killer)

The Snowman (translated) by Jo Nesbø ( A Norwegian detective story)

Aztec by Gary Jennings (extremely good historical novel, cannot recommend it enough. If you only read one book in the next year, this should be it.)
